Haley Morris-Cafiero investigates the social phenomenon of cyberbullying using self-portraiture against those who attempted to bully her. After her series Wait Watchers went viral she received numerous hateful comments online; The Bully Pulpit is her response. She parodies the bullies by photographing herself costumed like them, recreating images found on their public profiles with wigs, clothing and simple prosthetics, overlaid with transcripts of their comments, and publishes them on the internet – the same vehicle used for the attacks. A project that pushes the boundaries of self-portraiture and questions the social sphere of the internet.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
