Fallen documents a collaborative biodiversity and fine art project by the New Zealand-based artist and a group of scientists. It started with the setting of pitfall traps on 8 May 2007; twice a month, for thirteen months, John Pusateri gathered, separated, cleaned, labelled and preserved the trapped specimens.

Those specimens were recorded together with fragments of ceramic, glass and other found items from the same area. As a collated whole, along with additional information gathered for the project, they provide valuable baseline data that will clarify a sustainable approach to replanting native bush where invasive species are currently prevalent.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
