The resistance and the comfort of enamelled cast iron: a slogan of Jacob Delafon that summed up the merits of the bathtubs made at the Noyon foundry in the Aisne. The plant began production in 1898 and stopped it in 2007, relocated to China. Arnaud Chambon bears witness to the dismantling between April 2007 and February 2009, up to complete demolition. His acquaintance with the workers and with the economic stakes tied directly to the closure makes him a privileged witness to those deserted spaces. A history of the site completes the work.
“In the region it was called La Fonderie, but I know well that it was a small one, a plant like many others. I returned to record it in silence, after production had stopped. I wanted to make pictures that show a strange, secret and motionless part of poetry.”
