Going there, Vittorio Bergamaschi thought he would find the imprint of a vanished past inscribed in the landscape, and above all the one left by the communist period. Of that past he found few traces: the rage for demolition in the nineties tried to erase everything that recalled collectivisation — institutional buildings, cooperatives, sometimes even schools. What he met instead was an absolute present, at once willingly amnesiac and without visible project, which fascinated him far more than any relic.
