During a stay in New York the two decided on a game: when one caught a scene, the other was invited to do the same. Wandering that extravagant place, they took a double look at different neighbourhoods day after day, each equipped with a Holga 6 x 6 toy camera, the first loaded with black and white, the second with colour. In the end they selected fifty images, thirty-six of them assembled into black-and-colour diptychs and fourteen standing alone. They then asked the poet Albane Gellé to write from their images; she composed twenty-two short texts.

“No more scalpel cuts and blinding contrasts: here is the city and its pedestrians bathed in the thickness of the air. Where the city used to be represented as a modernist setting, here it is inhabited by an interior world.” — Michel Poivert

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
