This landmark project by Zofia Rydet is a sweepingly comprehensive documentary portrait of Polish domestic life, spanning decades, eras, regions and cultures. From 1978, when she was 67, she set out to record the inside of every household in the country. She would approach a home unannounced, knock, warmly introduce herself and ask the people living there if they would like to take part.
She was always on the road, camera in hand. For nearly three decades she worked in people's homes, on still lifes, on building exteriors and on the countryside, and she returned to the same houses several years after her first visit to document the transformation of rural life. The result is a monumental undertaking and one of the most important achievements in twentieth century Polish work.
