The project is about different perspectives of fear. It blends three subjects: pictures of the night, showing how people withdraw themselves from the outside when it gets dark, where nature takes over; portraits of family and friends who suffer from the fear of the dark, a phobia the artist first encountered in his children and then learned also occurs in quite a few adults; and his own very concrete experience of fear in Paris, during the attacks on the night of 13 November 2015, when he was on a boat on the Seine.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
