This Time Tomorrow is a visual portrait by David van Dartel reflecting his life with his friends in the nature of the Dutch island of Vlieland.
The book contains work from his ongoing ‘On Vlieland’ series and new photographs, where friendship is the central theme. The series was taken on the rugged West Frisian island in the Wadden Sea, whose scenery gives a sense of discovery and of ultimate adventure.
“From an early age I have been fascinated by the Dutch islands. As a family we used to visit them often and eventually Vlieland would become a particular place of interest for me and my friends. The island’s isolated location, you have to cross the sea, represents a feeling of wilderness, a perfect place to project all of my fantasies onto.”
“I spent endless summers there with friends. It is a place where everyone is at ease. We swim, stroll around and drink, but above all we reflect on life, and for a little moment we forget our lives at the other side of the sea. There is no schedule, it is only us at that moment of time. This time tomorrow, where will we be?”
