Interview with Michel Durigon
Like encyclopedic plates intended for a university anatomy course, Raphaël Dallaporta photographs organs. The legend once again explains the origin of these silent images. The main object is ultimately not the organ represented but the reason for its presence in an autopsy room. The apparent neutrality of the shot, resulting from a strict protocol [frontal view, black background allowing dense lighting of the “subject”], isolates each body fragment as an index allowing the determination of the cause of death. These relics of flesh and bone have a concrete identification value. But photographed in this way, they also have a metaphysical and philosophical dimension, recalling the ephemeral nature of life and human vulnerability.
