The wall stood between East Berliner Sibylle Bergemann and the wider world until November 9, 1989. Until this night, Timbuktu, Bangkok, Dakar are nothing more than names with a longing sound. Then time turns, and Sibylle Bergemann's wanderlust, cherished throughout her life, finds its fulfillment: she sets off for Yemen, Thailand, Ghana, Vietnam, India, Nepal, Mali, and allows herself to be carried away by foreign cultures, people and lifestyles, and exotic locations. She photographs reports – in color. This is also a discovery for a photographer who actually sees herself in the tradition of social documentary black and white photography.
