This book emerged from Juergen Teller’s journey to Shanghai, Wuhan and Chongqing, three major Chinese cities connected by the Yangtze. Originally commissioned by T Magazine China for its November 2024 cover story, Teller spent five inspiring days scouting locations and shooting with his wife and creative partner Dovile Drizyte, creating a fashion story that goes beyond fashion. He photographed the Chinese models Xiao Wen Ju, Lina Zhang and Christina Chung, who not only pose in the urban environment but instinctively and playfully make it their own: alleys, parking lots, escalators, restaurant kitchens, even cuts of meat on butchers’ hooks belong to the picture—nothing was arranged. Teller is known for such seemingly casual yet precise images.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
