The Erasure of Palestine is the result of a three-year journey by photographer and filmmaker Ahmad Al-Bazz, who documented what remains of the hundreds of Palestinian villages and cities emptied and destroyed after the creation of Israel and starting from its illegal expansion from 1948 to the present day. Unequivocal traces of these communities persist in the Israeli settlements, testimony to the violence of erasure as well as denunciation of a process that is still ongoing - a history of colonization and removal that persists in its destructive action. Through a combination of visual evidence, field research and testimonies, Al-Bazz demonstrates the strategy of occupation and systematic removal at the hands of the State of Israel. The project also deals with the most recent escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip, where around 80% of the population is now made up of refugees from depopulated Palestinian towns and villages, many of whom are documented in the book. The book will be presented, in the presence of the author and the publisher, on May 5th by Micamera – info here

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
