La Selva is the third book that Kate Bellm has created with the Mirage publisher. It brings together images taken over two years in Hawaii, Mexico, Thailand, Jamaica, Costa Rica, New Zealand, India and Cuba. La Selva delves into the dark and humid heart of the jungle. Here the women of Bellm appear indomitable and elementary, with their hair soaked in salt and sand, as they move between pandanus palms, bamboo shelters and mosquito nets as light as veils. Intertwined with still lifes of shells and ripening fruits and landscapes dripping with heat and humidity, La Selva unfolds in grainy blacks and whites and in a light imbued with tangerine hues, evoking lawless days, suspended in a time that seems to belong to distant decades.
