For over thirty-five years, Jochen Lempert has combined science and art in a unique photographic work, marked by a curious and poetic look at nature. A biologist by training, he ironically explores the relationship between culture and the natural world, focusing on the phenomena of perception and the analogies between vital and creative processes. His images, created with simple analogue means and a minimalist approach, reveal a profound sensitivity towards the forms and forces of life. The texts accompanying the project are by Florian Ebner, Frédéric Paul, Claire Le Restif and Kathrin Schönegg.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
