How many pixels do we see per day? Who invented the Pixel and why? Since the Pixel became the first element that transmits information, both textual and visual, the digital revolution has completely changed our communication, language and lifestyle. Our videos, photographs and even our thoughts are converted into Pixels, but we know nothing about the Pixel. The volume The Pixel, by Francesca Seravalle with an introduction by Joan Fontcuberta, proposes a multidisciplinary investigation into the Pixel, a fundamental element of the digital image, exploring its origin, evolution, aesthetic, ethical and cultural meaning, as well as the implications in contemporary and post-photographic society. The Pixel element is analyzed from multiple perspectives and in the different fields in which it has been used from its birth to today: art, technology, video games, photography, but also as a tool for intervention and manipulation of other images, thus taking on a further ethical and aesthetic value.
