Produced between 2011 and 2013 across the Iberian Peninsula, Juan Aballe's book explores his relationship with the rural environment and the emotions stirred by the possibility of leaving the city for a life closer to nature. It also reflects on photographic language itself and on how we are shaped by earlier representations and preconceived ideas about rural utopias — the illusion of escaping contemporary society, the naivety and hope invested in nature meeting the strangeness and nostalgia of a life that is not his own.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
