During my creative residency in Clermont, my apartment was located next to a building of quite remarkable architecture. I learned that it was a college built in 1938. In the Bauhaus style, the Clermont-de-l'Oise secondary school welcomed up to 1,400 students. The building has been unoccupied since 2004. What surprised me was its size. It is indeed a big school in a small town. I wonder if everyone in town studied there.
Frankly, the Bauhaus style is forbidding today, but it represents history and a revolution in design that had a strong influence around the world.
With my photos, I try to document the relationship between the college and the city. I look at the traces that the students have left, the marks that have been written. I scrutinize the construction, from the inside and the outside. It is a vestige of heritage, of history. It is also the collective memory of the inhabitants of Clermontois. […]
