Arlette Rosa-Lameynardie, born in 1930 in Paris, began her career as a photographer in the service of the French Communist Party agency and collaborated with l'Humanité, Ce Soir and Regards. She moved to Martinique in 1961 and opened her first studio in Fort-de-France, rue François Arago.

Alongside her classic studio activity and institutional commissions, she takes a sensitive look at the culture and living conditions of the Martinique population.

A pioneer as a female photographer in Martinique, she captured precious images of the new working-class neighborhoods of Fort-de-France and the daily lives of farmers and fishermen in Martinique.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
