The sculptor Hannes Brunner, working in Berlin and Zürich, works with “poor” materials such as corrugated cardboard, newspaper, wire mesh and paraffin. Maschinenpark Fahrzeuge Orchester is an autonomous photographic documentation of his fragile bricolage objects and accumulations, assembled with the least technical effort. With titles like “Lawnmower” or “Crashed Car,” hardness, metallic heaviness and apparatus-like destructive force are playfully conjured up and suspended. The kinetics and gleam of modernity lose themselves, exhausted, in the brownish dullness of the cheap material.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
