Huts are among the most romantic and — in the literal sense — most primitive structures of our high civilization. Forest huts are quotations, arisen in modern leisure time, of our struggle against untamed nature, of our pioneer existence, of our forest-dwelling humanity. They are escapist functional buildings, mostly simple but skilful timber constructions, sometimes tinkered together over years from the most diverse materials, often lovingly built with much heart's blood. The pictures shown all come from the archive of the Kriens building authority. They are utilitarian photographs whose purpose is clearly evident.
