The basic idea is to capture Zürich in the last year of the closing millennium in the form of a photographic diary. A homage to Zürich from the viewpoint of ten young photographers and twenty writers. Alongside 365 photos the book unites written contributions of the most varied kinds (short stories, fictional or recorded dialogues, poems, essays). As varied as the individual photos are, so varied are the written contributions. Subjectivity and heterogeneity in image and text are deliberately sought. 1999 as the occasion to capture the city of Zürich, its architecture, its inhabitants, its “groove” in the last year of the 20th century.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
