“Finland is a rare exception in the North,” says the artist Jussi Puikkonen of his homeland. On Vacation is a poetic journey in photographs spanning the nine months in which Finland lies in hibernation. Only during the three summer months are Finns, like tourists, perceptible outdoors; the rest of the year they prefer to hide in their houses. In popular classic resort towns like Hanko or Naantali, however, a breath of summery leisure activism remains palpable even in winter — and it is precisely this mood that Puikkonen captures.
