For more than a year the Zürich artist Christoph Hänsli worked on a special painterly project. Meticulously he paints his way through a mortadella cut into 166 slices — each slice from the front and from the back. In the end there are 332 pictures. Factually, that says it all — except that within this world of sausage slices a downright hypnotic universe opens up, between meditative mortadella mandalas and slowly changing, pale-pink constellations. An ontological approach to the painterly essence of a sausage.
