Falsche Chalets is about a frivolous variant of the otherwise rather delusional bunker world of the Swiss army, which from the interwar period into the 1970s was concerned with nothing less than the total fortification of the homeland's territory. The book is about camouflage and deception, about architecture faked from the incredibly clumsy to the astonishingly effective — about the involuntarily ironic, copied or downright sloppily imitated poses of an always-already unwholesome alpine architecture.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
