At first glance it seems to be a series of black-and-white shots of a gently rolling hill landscape. But then large shadows on the ground begin to catch the eye — surreally indeterminate and slightly threatening. They turn out to be cast by aircraft, for the supposedly pastoral landscape pictures show the approach corridor of Zürich airport — abbreviated ZRH, in radio language Zulu Romeo Hotel. Every two minutes a passenger plane thunders past on its western approach to runway 14, its shadow as big as a hill. The artist's book by young photographer Sebastian Heeb (b. 1990) is not a documentation of airport and air traffic but outlines a visual tension between landscape, aircraft and shadow, associatively open to different readings. The images are complemented by a short text based on an interview with a Swiss pilot describing the approach to runway 14.
