Salon Helga, Salon Gisela, Vorhair Nachhair: hair salons are curious worlds. Their names grab attention; their windows propagate an aesthetic all their own. They are strange pearls, the window displays of these Swiss hair salons shown in Salon Moderne. Here a window adorned with Corinthian columns, fishing nets and shells; there one with model cars and a signed football. Grimacing carnival masks, colourful swim rings in summer, pictures of reigning and former Swiss beauty queens. Hairdresser window design is an art of its own, often detached from the core business, and its diversity remains unbeatable. That such a decoration culture survives in the age of professional branding was reason enough to devote a book to the phenomenon. After Gut Holz (bowling alleys) and Die schönsten Schweizer Tea Rooms, this is the third book by editors Fabienne Eggelhöfer and Monica Lutz published by Edition Patrick Frey.
