The Swiss-American graphic artist, musician, photographer and performance artist Mike Hentz is among the pioneers of media art. He co-founded the legendary performance group Minus Delta T, the artist groups Frigo and Radio Bellevue, and the European Media Art Lab. In the 1990s he realized the project Piazza Virtuale with Van Gogh TV and numerous interactive television events with Universcity TV via cable and satellite. He also taught at art schools in Germany, Switzerland and various Eastern European countries. Works 7 is a survey of an entirely idiosyncratic kind — snapshots from all over the world, paintings, collages, graphics, ornamentation and artefacts from Hentz's collections, ranging from old illustrated magazines to fabric samples, cross-linking and illuminating one another. Hentz's works are multifunctional, ceaselessly morphing and surfacing in the most varied contexts. The book, at once encyclopedic and excessive, mirrors this work-in-flux in its associative arrangement.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
