"With a sense of foreboding tinged with playful fantasy, androgynous figures of indeterminate age float on top of and through each other in a layered composition separated by planes of Plexiglas and semi-opaque vellum paper. The ghost-like figures are caught in awkward, transitional states: sometimes their images are doubled; sometimes they seem more animal than human. The figures' relationship to the horizon line shifts within a single drawing. This horizontal reference point separates air from water, reality from fantasy, and distorts the figures. This shift mimics the play of light through water, passing through the two worlds and fracturing the figure caught between them. These absurd predicaments strive to provoke conflicting emotions in the viewer. Scenes which would normally appear threatening, dangerous, or grotesque inspire empathy as well as fear, and ultimately are revealed to be more complex than was first assumed." –Anthony Goicolea

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
