“The responsibility you take for both your own and the other's humanity in the concrete situation is the truly critical measure of the representative shaped public roles in society. All human values – justice, morality and ethics – relate ultimately to the presence of human faces. If these are missing, obscured, distorted or manipulated, there is no personal responsibility for what happens in the situation, society and the world.” For Dom alla – reflektioner om socialt arbete (Them all – reflections on Social Work) the author Göran Odbratt and photographer Lars Tunbjörk have made repeated visits to some Swedish municipalities. They have visited the social welfare offices, and other environments and activities that aims to support people’s opportunities for a good life in the community. All text in Swedish. “Det är nu mer än en vecka sen jag sögs in i Odbratt och Tunbjörks tjocka samhällsthriller om det personliga ansvarets betydelse och än har jag inte sluppit ur deras moraliska grepp. … Det är pretentiöst i ordets bästa bemärkelse. Och konstigt nog är det spännande. Lite som att läsa den amerikanske thrillerförfattaren James Ellroy …” / Susanne Pagold, Dagens Nyheter

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
