In its various historical paths, street photography has often been the fruit of research conducted with mainly personal motivations. A similar path is that of Alice Ginavri, who in photographing Florence went in search of her own way of seeing and being in her city, observing and accepting its many complexities and contradictions, working an allusive fusion between subject and object of her narration. Through her lens, Ginavri used the streets and inhabitants of today's Florence as a means to explore her ambivalent feeling between nostalgia and disorientation. Full of contradictions and contemporary anxieties, in her photographs groups, individuals and couples appear almost in passing - a varied, constantly moving multitude captured in an immediate and instinctive way; the wide-angle distortion, the slanted lines, the off-centre.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
