Quasi nel mezzo di una verità is a multi-year research work characterised by an interest in the silent tragedy hidden behind “minor stories” - those belonging to a little-spectacularised context, and therefore often condemned to remain in the shadows. In D'Elia's work, forgetting is not a plausible choice. Even the most imperceptible detail of everyday life acquires value in these images, ending up reshaped into a narrative metric rich with references to classical art, literature, poetry and philosophy. For the author, photographing is a visceral experience, a process skilled at bringing to light what is uncomfortable or hidden. Mastering a grammar of melancholy flavour, the photographer becomes conscious of contemporary contingencies.
