Photography is the transformation of three-dimensional spaces into two-dimensional images, and this is exactly what Detlef Podehl has been doing for about four decades. His photographs are perfectly balanced compositions of surfaces and lines, in color as well as in black and white, always of the highest precision in execution and effect. This book shows two sides of his work: On the one hand, Detlef Podehl has been the in-house photographer of the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund, the DORTMUNDER MODELL, since 1986; on the other hand, as a photographer he has repeatedly captured architecture artistically in free works. Detlef Podehl reads architecture like a score and performs it in images like a conductor. In this way, he proves himself to be an artist in the medium of photography.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
