“Le premier homme” is a semi-fictional documentary portraying the story of a mysterious man known as Mr. B., who lives as a hermit deep in nature. After spending his entire life working relentlessly just to survive, and only a few years before retirement, Mr. B. abandons everything — his job, family, friends, and home — in search of a simpler and more authentic existence.

Crushed by an increasingly inhuman and destructive system, he finds refuge far from society, where he develops extraordinary abilities: controlling the elements, communicating with animals, and even levitating.

By refusing to take part in the exploitation of nature and human beings, and by embracing a humble and responsible way of living, Mr. B. stands against the excesses of neoliberalism. Like a modern David facing Goliath, he embodies a deeply contemporary struggle that he will pursue without compromise once he feels ready to return to what is paradoxically called “civilization.”

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
