This project by Marijn Bax consists of a publication and audio work. All images and sounds are from the garden of Ank van Peski, called Heesterlust, in Leidschendam, the Netherlands. For three years Marijn walked the many paths of this two-hectare garden: a long and narrow stretched piece of land descending thirteen feet into the meadows of the Dutch peat-land area. There she watched, wondered, observed, photographed and recorded the human hand at work. Step by step Marijn became more aware of the visual, physical and mental interplay of the depth and layers in this enchanting garden and the human need to engage in gardening.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
