Tiny is the artist's grandfather and Toos is his grandmother: two people who have had the longest influence on his parents' formation and therefore also on his own. Shared memories, stories and values strengthen family bonds and give direction in life. From the simple gestures to the profound life lessons, every interaction with grandparents contributes to the person one becomes today. The negative memories and traits from the past are slowly purged as one seeks to resolve sharp edges and not pass them on to later generations. With this series of photographs, the artist explores who his grandmother was, but also who his grandfather was. The book has no correct reading order - it can be opened from both ends and turned either way. Toos and Tiny meet on the spine, their names heading in two opposite directions.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
