101 Pictures is RRB Photobooks' first publication with photographer Tom Wood and offers a generous survey across his long career. The book gathers, as its title says, one hundred and one images drawn from the breadth of Wood's body of work—Liverpool buses and bus stops, families on Pier Head, kids on a council estate, women on a night out, lovers, fairs, the small geometries of a corner shop. While there are many fantastic Tom Wood books to choose from, RRB's stated wish was that, if a new reader were to pick only one, this should be it: a generous, well-paced selection that holds in one hand the well-known images and the previously unseen, giving an entry into a body of work that is among the most loved and most quietly influential in British documentary photography of the past four decades. Wood has photographed in and around Liverpool and northern England since the late nineteen-seventies, working in colour and in black-and-white with a steady, deeply observant eye that finds extraordinary attention in seemingly ordinary moments.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
