Cotton Candy was born long before I noticed. I wanted to give voice to something that struggled to materialize concretely, because it moved silently. Every time I started a thought about the experience of the body I touched hypersensitive points and could not go further. So I opened myself to encounter and dialogue with other women, I wanted to go beyond my own experience to understand that of others and find myself in their narratives. The body is not an entity isolated from the world in which it moves. I questioned myself about the terms 'defective' and 'unproductive' and about the induction to being necessarily performant. Despite great awareness I could not understand the reason why we do not feel good in a changing body. Physical change is an inevitable event in time but can also occur drastically. Especially here arises the detachment, the elaboration required is very rapid but the emotional content proportionally large. If we were used to thinking and defining our bodily identity in a way more adherent to reality, the feeling of detachment from what is defined as normality would perhaps be different. But this concept of reality is not complete until discussions develop that take into account the facets that colour female identity. The perspective on a woman's body is always filtered by the male gaze to the point of becoming dominant socio-cultural thought. The discomfort for a body no longer functional arises from the unfulfilled environmental expectations. What does a body actually want for itself, beyond what it should want? Thus emerges a narration of pre-established meanings imposing even on those who thought they were free of it with repercussions worthy of being seen. The visual research here would like to generate a process of liberation and openness with respect to the definition of self.
