Covering a 10 years' period of the life of Portuguese photographer Inês Gonçalves (b. 1964, Lisbon), '88-98' is a book made of reproductions collected from other books and catalogues published by the author during one of the most prolific periods of her long professional life, during which she established herself as an important landmark in the landscape of Portuguese fashion photography. Departing from an original concept conceived in partnership with lens based artist Federico Clavarino (b. Turin, 1984), '88-98' takes its form by following a peculiar strategy of graphic and editorial reinterpretation, in which elements from different contexts are put together in a new sequence that, nevertheless, preserves Gonçalves' photographic ethos.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
