Mondo Decay is a publication combining a book by the visual artist Brad Feuerhelm and a music cassette from the band Nun Gun, comprising artist Brad Feuerhelm and musicians Lee Tesche and Ryan Mahan from the band Algiers. Experimental in form, the project refers to the group's use of Italian Mondo Cannibal Films of the 70s and 80s. The original soundtracks of classic films such as Cannibal Ferox, Cannibal Holocaust and Zombi have been slowed and broken down. The photographic images offer a further note on what an accelerated post-industrial world of fragmentized urbanity could look like. The exoticism found in original Mondo films has been subverted to look at the failings of capitalism in the West. Winner of the Ear/eye award 2020.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
