A major figure of the Dutch photography scene, basing his approach on the New Photography movement, Cas Oorthuys (1908–1975) travelled the world from the interwar years to the 1970s. Through a unique testimony of about 500,000 images, mostly taken in 6 x 6 cm, his photographs intertwine personal and historical narratives, from the Dutch resistance to Amsterdam, Europe and beyond.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
