Tobias Meier (b. Landshut, 1985; lives and works in Munich) focuses his camera’s lens on the traces of subculture and counterculture that surface in the urban fabric. When the native of a country town in Bavaria moved to Munich, he missed the signs of life, the grime, the authentic, and so he went in search of it. Thirteen years later, his photographs in München—Streifzüge demonstrate that each of the city’s neighborhoods is a microcosm unto itself, with distinctive characteristics and an individual aesthetic: from Hasenbergl to Neuhausen, from Schwabing to Neuperlach, Meier uncovers telling details and singular irregularities that refute all stereotypes.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
