"Have you ever had feelings of relaxation, meditation and opening your mind when you see the clouds in the sky or the sea? Have you ever seen the blue earth in aerial photos? Water, sky — the natural objects we live in that are concentrated in blue... Blue has the effect of escaping from time and material possessions that floats past, present and future. I believe this is the only colour that allows you to escape from yourself and enter your world of poetry and the memories deep down in your heart." Mika Horie. The book's title refers to the main elements used by Mika Horie to create her cyanotypes. Cyanotype is a photographic technique using the photosensitivity of iron salts. Mika Horie's prints are all different, even when they show the same image, due to the constantly changing sunlight, and the particularities of the handmade paper made by the artist. This uniqueness is highlighted in the book. Each copy has its own original cyanotype. Each book is therefore unique.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
