In FLOH Tacita Dean has gathered photographs she found at flea markets in Europe and the USA. Portraits, holiday pictures, snapshots of the special and the banal, she took them in and brought them to new life. The calm of the flea market is still in them, the calm of the moment when they were found, the calm of the lost object. At a certain point Tacita Dean had to end her rummaging at the flea markets: she feared that she would always find new pictures that “belonged in the book”, until she realised that there would be no closed collection and never could be. FLOH exists in boundlessness and will one day return to the place from which the book started: the flea market.
