Once a year countless twins meet at America’s largest twins festival in Twinsburg, Ohio: brothers and sisters of every age, twins married to twins, siblings who bring their own twin children. Mary Ellen Mark invited participants to be photographed by her on the spot. The elaborate pictures were made with a particularly finely nuanced 50 x 60 cm large-format Polaroid camera, of which only a few exist worldwide. The large-format book shows extraordinary pictures that give insight into the deep relationships between twins. The portraits are simply depicting or staged, but in any case unique and irritating, full of humour and human warmth.
