A dazzling word denotes the process of dissolution of the previous world order: globalization. A New World is to emerge from it, in which people and relationships, trade and finance, technology and knowledge enjoy undreamt-of freedoms full of possibilities and risks. But what does this mean in concrete terms? In the age of limitless opening, “traditional” ways of life and identities are threatened, long-established structures dissolve: what takes their place? Ten photographers followed the promoting and destructive force of globalization. They report from margins and centres, upswings and disasters, escape routes and breakouts, from the Chinese Pearl River Delta to war-scarred Bosnia-Herzegovina, from African youths’ sports fields to the Paris suburbs, from Italy and Vietnam, Belgium, the USA, Nigeria and Brazil, India and Bangladesh.
