The pictures in this book were taken in Times Square in New York. At their centre are individual people, random passers-by, whose heads stick out of the crowd and whose expressions appear uninvolved. In the bustling metropolis the photographer turns his attention entirely to details: the facial expression, hair, clothing and jewellery, a bottle of water. In these unstaged yet artificial-looking photographs everyday life is exalted; the insignificant becomes icons of our time.
