Corpus is the first comprehensive monograph on the work of Alejandra Figueroa. The photographer finds her motifs in the great museums of the world: she photographs sculptures, works from antiquity to the nineteenth century. But she is not concerned with famous objects but with the shaped body, with textures and metamorphoses. Effortlessly she overcomes cultural and temporal distances; her pictures look as if flesh-and-blood people had modelled for her. The stone body thus gains unsuspected sensual qualities. The crops of torsos, limbs and folds of the body tell of longing and passion, of love, death and a sense of the beyond.
