Heinz Hajek-Halke is a great loner in Germany; his varied photographic oeuvre has so far been almost unresearched. It ranges from experimental nude photographs, photomontages and advertising photographs of the 1920s and 30s through picture reportages and biological macro shots of the 1940s to the abstract light graphics of the late work. Hajek-Halke, who sought early to overcome the documentary quality of photography, made it usable for advertising purposes through experimental manipulations. His techniques can be regarded as forerunners of today’s photo and web design. This generously produced book is devoted to all important creative phases between the 1920s and 1950s.
