This book unites two artists and two projects: Heribert Ottersbach engaged extensively with Joachim Brohm’s “Areal” body of work on the transformation of urban structures, while Brohm engaged with Ottersbach’s pictures made on the Portuguese island of Culatra. Each responded with new works. Ottersbach transforms compositional and content aspects of Brohm’s documentary photography into genuine works of painting; Brohm in turn concentrates on Ottersbach’s painting more in the sense of a motif-based reworking. The book shows the artists’ works in numerous juxtapositions, documents the creative processes and shows sketches and other accompanying material.
