For six decades Detlef Orlopp has been developing a highly independent photographic oeuvre devoted entirely to the sculptural diversity of landscapes and faces. The catalogue to the exhibition of the same name at Museum Folkwang shows this photographer’s continual border crossings between his work on the image and his fascination with the morphological richness of our earth. Orlopp’s photographic view transforms the surface of landscape into a designed and reduced image without giving up the relation to the subject. Mountain formations, glaciers and water surfaces, but also faces, are among the motif groups he returns to again and again.
